I’m taking Floyd, but by SD. I feel like this is going to be a close fight and I have a hard time seeing either guy get stopped.
I expect Floyd to start slowly as he typically does and Canelo will steal a couple of rounds early. I think Canelo will make a more dedicated effort to hit Floyd’s body than many of his other recent opponents and this will have Floyd on his toes more than usual. He’s a guy that finishes a lot to the body and that may help him some with the judges if the shots appear effective.
Floyd will inevitably adjust by the 4th and he’s going to be able to touch Canelo. I like that Canelo has improved his defense recently by leaps and bounds, but if a guy like Josesito Lopez can hit him clean then so can Floyd. I will say that the size differential will mean that Canelo can and will probably be able to take Floyd’s shots.
Down the stretch I like Floyd to pull away. Canelo tends to fade late in fights and being at 152 isn’t going to help that. I don’t really see him staying at 154 much longer regardless how this plays out. I do think he’ll dig deep for this one and that’s part of what will make it close.
I also like it to be close just based on the volume of punches each of these guys throws. Neither has crazy volume and that can make for closer rounds unless Floyd is hitting Canelo completely at will.
If the fight is at all close and entertaining, don’t be surprised if Floyd gets robbed. There would be so much more money in a rematch and you have to figure Canelo is being set up to be the next PPV king. Either way I hope we see the best both guys have to offer.
Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse
I’ve had a much harder time picking the Garcia-Matthysse fight. Initially my thought was to go with Danny. I think he’s a slightly better boxer and he seems content in the underdog role. I figure he’s going to try and keep Matthysse on the outside where he’s got the edge and see if he grind out a decision.
But the more I’ve thought about this fight, the more I’m not sure he can stay away from Matthysse’s power for 12 rounds. Garcia’s fight with Judah was somewhat telling because he faced some adversity late with the cuts from butting heads. Garcia really didn’t react well and Judah closed that fight strong, putting him in trouble. It will be tough to go through a fight with Matthysse without facing some adversity as well, and I’m not confident he’ll come through it.
Matthyse has a great beard so even if Garcia can hit him cleanly, I see the Machine still coming forward. I also feel like Matthysse has a mental edge. He’s got as calm a demeanor as you’re going to see.
I see something like Matthysse via KO in 9. Garcia holds him off for a while but he’s not slick enough to do it the whole fight. And no matter what happens we’ll at least get to hear what Angel Garcia says after!
Ishe Smith vs. Carlos Molina
To close it out I’ve got Molina over Ishe Smith via decision. I like Smith a lot so I’d be happy to be wrong in this one.
This is one of those deals that could be a tough fight to score (and could maybe even be pretty boring). But Molina is scrappy and has fought a number of close fights against difficult opponents and I like him to do enough to win this despite the fact he’ll be fighting in Smith’s back yard. Molina’s been on a roll for a while and I think it continues for at least one more fight.
During the Holiday break we visited my mom in Gettysburg. We were fortunate to be there at at time when there was several inches of snow on the ground, so we headed over to Seminary Ridge and got out sled on.
Splatterbug, Hacksaw, and Maddenwidow all tried to sled off a small jump on the hill. Who do you think had the best jump?
Today, after nearly twelve years of marriage we bought our first grill. It’s one of those things we’ve talked about for some time and finally pulled the trigger on.
The best part our last minute impulse to make this move is that we got a Home Depot floor model so we didn’t have to take the time to put the whole thing together before enjoying some delicious burgers and hotdogs.
Side Note: It’s literally been months since I had a cheeseburger and damn did it taste good.
This last few days I’ve been playing the DayZ mod for ArmA II after seeing it highlighted in this article on Kotaku. There are several zombie fans in the Kinsler household and we’ve taken plenty of time to discuss the best possible strategy for surviving the zombie apocalypse. In DayZ I’ve had the opportunity to put my strategies to the test. Here are some cool things I’ve experienced so far.
