2009 NFL Picks: Week 17
The end of the NFL regular season is here. It’s a sad day for those of us whose teams won’t be playing next week as we now wait to see how everyone else finishes and how it will affect the Draft order. While the regular season may be at an end, I’ll continue to post my picks each week during the playoffs.
Have a look at the picks, let me know what you think, and drop your own picks in the comments!
Indianapolis at Buffalo (Colts) The Colts manage to win a game that no longer really has any meaning.
Jacksonville at Cleveland (Browns) The Browns finish their season on a high note against a Jags team that was the NFL version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Chicago at Detroit (Bears) Bears ride their victory over the Vikings into Detroit against the lowly Lions.
San Francisco at St. Louis (49ers) San Francisco finishes strong, poising them to be a team you might want to keep an eye on next season.
Pittsburgh at Miami (Steelers) The defending Super Bowl champions do everything they can not to go out with a loss.
NY Giants at Minnesota (Vikings) Playing for their pride isn’t enough for the Giants to get a win in the final week of the season.
Atlanta at Tampa Bay (Falcons) Tampa Bay comes back to earth in a tough divisional loss to the Falcons.
New Orleans at Carolina (Saints) The Saints are desperate for a win and will get one against a Panthers team that won’t look like the one that beat the Giants last week.
New England at Houston (Patriots) I stand by my prediction 3 weeks ago that the Patriots won’t lose another game in the regular season.
Green Bay at Arizona (Packers) The Packers are quietly the team that nobody in the NFC wants to face come playoff time.
Washington at San Diego (Redskins) I always pick the Redskins because of superstition. Goodbye Zorn. You never really stood a chance, did you?
Tennessee at Seattle (Titans) The Titans will take out some frustrations on the struggling Seahawks to end the season.
Baltimore at Oakland (Ravens) Ravens win and are in. It’s nice to control your destiny.
Philadelphia at Dallas (Eagles) Dallas got the December monkey off their backs, but the Eagles are still the better team and will win the East today.
Kansas City at Denver (Chiefs) Chiefs come in to town and win around the feud between Marshall and McDaniels.
Cincinnati at NY Jets (Jets) Jets need to win to go to the playoffs and manage to do so against a team that’s probably a bit better than them.

Dolphins lose, and Jets win.. I surely hope that you are wrong on both accounts, but will have to wait and see. Either way, Go 'Phins and any last chance at playoffs!

There's always a lot of talk about the last week scenarios, but I think this week it will just be as simple as the two teams that need to win will find a way to do so.
Would rather see your Phins in the playoffs above the Jets any time though.

Indy will lay it down and lose like last week. Unless Caldwell wants to draw even more fire for being a hypocrit there's no reason to play Manning more than a series or two like pre-season.
The Jags are still the better team and it will show against Cleveland though much respect to the Browns for their late season resurgance.
I do think the Steelers will win, but I really hope Miami pulls it off I am over the Steelers.
I am picking a close game either way but I am picking Giants. After last week's embarassment they to come out and show bounce back heading into the off season and what better way than to spoil the Vikings bye aspirations?
San Diego over Washington even if SD plays all the scrubs. That was a heart pick right?

Dallas. All I can say is, we'll find out today how deep this Cowboys team really is going to go in the playoffs. They lose here and the season will likely end next week. If they win here, I really feel they have a Giants -esque peaking at the right time, tired of the naysayers run in them. They need to watch last year's game and remind themselves of the embarrassing no show in a similar situation. I think they'll rise to the occassion and minus some of their key skill guys and on the line due to injury I think McNabb might have Jay Ratliff in his face for 60 minutes. Cowboys win in a nail biter ala the first matchup.

I agree that Manning for sure isn't going to be a factor today. I just think the Colts are that much better than the Bills and that back ups will play better without the pressure of an undefeated season on their shoulders.
I have a superstition about picking against the Skins so it's not a real pick… I just never pick against them.
I hear you on the Giants but I just don't know if they are good enough. One of the reasons I'd been hoping they'd make it into the playoffs over Dallas is because I thought the Giants had a greater chance of getting knocked out of the first round. I've been waiting for the wheels to fall off that team all season long.
I partly agree on Dallas. I do think they will be out soon if they lose today. I don't think a win guarantees a Super Bowl play, but it will probably mean some sort of a run in the playoffs and could lead to a shot at the SB. That being said I think Philly will take it to them. I won't be happy until both teams are done playing this season but I think Philly is a much more dangerous team.

I'm also seeing some comments on Twitter about the Saints game. I like them to win with Brunell at QB. I think we all know that he's not Drew Brees, but in a no pressure situation where he hasn't been putting any kind of real strain on himself this year I think he can and will play well.
