NFL Wild Card Playoff Picks

We’ll be watching the NFL Wild Card Playoffs this weekend so we thought it might be fun to have everyone pick the games.  Whose picks do you like the most?

Cincinnati @ Houston

raczilla- Texans.  Despite some of their issues, Houston doesn’t come this far to lose their first playoff game at home.

MaddenWidow- Texans.  I have to choose between teams with the  Longhorn steakhouse and Frosted Flakes as their logos?  I like Tony the Tiger better.

Hacksaw Haley- Bengals.  Because I hate the Cowboys and this is as close as I can get to picking against them.

Splatterbug- Bengals. Why?  I’m just picking.

Terror Tot- After this can we watch Shrek?

Detroit @ New Orleans

raczilla- Detroit.  Whoever has the ball last wins?  This will be a shootout but I like the first legit Lions time in some time to disappoint the Saints on their own home field.

MaddenWidow- Lions.  Their offensive players have always done well for me in fantasy. (please note MaddenWidow is wearing a Saints jersey while picking against them)

Hacksaw Haley- Lions.  I’m still upset that the Saints beat the Colts in the Super Bowl.

Splatterbug- Saints.  Because they are better.  Duh.

Terror Tot- Triangle.  That is my favorite shape.

Atlanta @ New York

raczilla- Giants.  They under-perform far too often but I look for Eli to have a big day and the G-Men to come out on top.

MaddenWidow- Giants.  It’s not my favorite Manning but it’s still a Manning.

Hacksaw Haley- Giants.  I’m assuming they are taller.

Splatterbug- Giants.  I’ve never heard of the other team.

Terror Tot- Why aren’t the Redskins playing?  That is the team we watch every week.

Pittsburgh @ Denver

raczilla- Steelers.  Denver isn’t ready for a game like this.  It may be closer than some expect but I don’t think it will ever truly be in doubt.

MaddenWidow- Broncos.  I’m tired of seeing the Steelers win in the playoffs.

Hacksaw Haley- Steelers.  They have the most Super Bowl wins.

Splatterbug- Steelers.   Because they steal.

Terror Tot- What is a Tebow?

Stay out of My Scrapbook!

This is a helpful note I created for anyone who thinks it’s acceptable to look at my scrapbook.  I hope it comes across ok.  I’m a little bit concerned that I’m not being clear enough.  What do you think?

Abner the Dog

My parents have a new dog named Abner. He’s just ten weeks old and not only shares his name with Union General Abner Doubleday (they live in Gettysburg), but also with the owner of the farm where they got him. He’s an easy going puppy. I think we’ll get along just fine.

My Gettysburg Run

When I visit my parents in Gettysburg one of my favorite things to do is go out each morning for a run around a loop that’s a five minute drive from their house. I’m visiting for Memorial Day weekend and took a few shots this morning after my run.

I usually run the loop twice in a session. It’s almost exactly a mile and a half in distance so at three miles it’s not a super long run, but has enough hills to make you work hard.

The area where the loop sits is on a part of the Gettysburg battlefield where Union and Confederate soldiers first exchanged fire on day one of the battle. So not only is it a really pretty place to run, it’s a historically significant part of the town.

At the very top of the loop there’s an eternal flame memorial statue, which is typically where I start my run. The first part is downhill so when you hit the bottom half way through the loop it ends up being a climb back up to where the statue is. Today there were a lot more tourists than usual and I was passed by a bunch of buses. Memorial Day weekend is as good a time as any for people to visit the site of such a historic battle. It’s cool to see so many people coming through to check it out.

Many parts of the Gettysburg battlefield are lined with statues and memorials honoring the soldiers who participated in the battle. This is one of at least a couple dozen statues around the loop I run.

A portion of the loop is on Doubleday Avenue, named after Union General Abner Doubleday. The Doubleday Inn is along that road and I’ve heard it’s a great place to stay if you’re visiting Gettysburg.

This red barn and train tracks can be seen near the top of the loop right at the beginning of my run.

Today on my run I lucked out and happened to catch this train passing on the tracks right next to the barn. I’ve done this run a bunch of times but never been out there when a train came through.

Since I’m in town for the full Memorial Day weekend, I’ll be sure to put up a few more posts of some of the events. I’m told there’s a parade and a few other happenings worth checking out.

If you like the pics of the loop there are a few more in this gallery. There’s also another gallery from my last trip to Gettysburg during New Years that has photos from other parts of the battlefield.

Moving with Maya

I’m not going to re-add a bunch of the posts I lost, but this one right as we moved a couple of months ago was great and I want to make sure I have it up here. Maya wasn’t feeling the sound of the tape as the TV was being packed up.
